Why Understanding Asia Matters for Future Business Leaders

As global markets become increasingly interconnected, understanding Asia is no longer optional for business leaders. Decisions made in Seoul, Tokyo, Taipei, Hong Kong, or Shanghai can influence supply chains, investment flows, consumer behavior, manufacturing, technology, and commercial real estate markets around the world.

It was a privilege to be invited as a guest expert by the McGill Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University to share practical perspectives on doing business across Asia. Speaking with university students is always rewarding because it provides an opportunity to bridge the gap between business theory and real-world experience. While business schools provide essential frameworks, success in international markets also depends on understanding the cultural, economic, and strategic realities that shape business decisions across different regions.

For Canadian businesses, the rise of Asia is not simply a story of competition. It is also a story of innovation, collaboration, investment, and cross-cultural learning. The organizations that will thrive in the coming decades are those that build meaningful connections across borders while adapting to an increasingly global marketplace.
